Virtual reality is the one of the most anticipated topics currently with huge interests from some tech giants. With sony (project Morpheus) , facebook (oculus rift) , Carl Zeiss (vr one) and a long queue of companies including Valve, HTC , Samsung and microsoft with their own version of the product.
There must be some reason for such 'hot-fuzz' ... sure there is.
On the time of writing , there are few prototypes already displayed and tested on some conferences.
First was oculus rift version 1 ( and version 2 eventually) , after which google came in with their own $20 'product' , the cardboard with the sole purpose of getting more people acquainted with the VR.
Sony and others followed. With big promises ...since sony has a perfect partner in the form of ps4 for its Project Morpheus , the VR is not limited to just the expensive headsets, google cardboard and samsung gear vr are different in their own right since they use a smartphone as a screen and for processing.
The current focus of virtual reality is on the gaming community, and likewise the response from gamesters is massive, the anticipation and buildup for the upcoming launch of consumer version of vr is somewhat crazy, since the vr is relatively unknown and promising to be the "Next Big Thing".
Surely the experience of virtual reality at first can be simply mind blowing, and can leave anyone in awe . Its entirely different from what we have seen so far in conventional gaming and media interaction, the immersion or "Presence" make the big difference.
What is still unknown is how will it go once in the mainstream , since the motion sickness and many other major health issues can not be overlooked, but the researching companies are also capable of creating just the magic needed to take the VR from prototype testing to our living rooms.
